Not every grief has a funeral. Losing a career, a body that worked, a faith, a dream you organised your life around, or a house full of children is real bereavement.
It's often disenfranchised — people expect you to adapt quickly and see the upside.
The task is the same as any grief: acknowledge what's gone, mourn it properly, and slowly build a version of life that includes the absence.
Don't rush to find the silver lining. You're allowed to be sad about it first, for as long as it takes.
