🐾 Pet loss

It was a real relationship. Grieve it like one.

Pets are woven into daily life more tightly than most humans: they're in your routines, your mornings, your doorway. Their absence is felt dozens of times a day.

The relationship was uncomplicated in a way human ones rarely are — that's part of why it hurts so much.

Euthanasia adds guilt on top: you chose the moment. Choosing to end suffering you could no longer relieve was the last act of care, not a betrayal.

Keep the collar. Keep the photo up. There's no rule about how long a bowl stays on the floor.
