😮💨 Relieved
Why it happens
Relief after a long illness, a hard relationship, or a period of caregiving is one of the most common and least admitted feelings in grief.
What it might mean
Relief is about the ending of suffering — theirs or yours. It is not a verdict on how much you loved them.
Healthy ways to respond
- Name what specifically ended: the pain, the phone calls at 3am, the fear.
- Let both be true in one sentence: “I miss them and I'm relieved it's over.”
- Find one person who won't flinch, and say it to them.
Grounding
Exhale for twice as long as you inhale, six times. Relief lives in the out-breath.
